Case Study

TLS currently provides customised leadership development instruments to the Australian Public Service, in conjunction with the Centre for Public Management. These instruments are based on competency frameworks at different levels of management in the Australian Public Service. The tools are multi-rater based and have been integrated into many public sector internal management-training programs. These programs are highly successful.

The Australian Public Service has utilised our 360º instruments in a number of their foremost Leadership Development Programmes and key departments.

Dr John Baker, Executive Director of the Centre for Public Management, has been working closely in a joint venture with TLS and says: "Working with a group of more than 20 senior Australian Public Service Managers, I was struck by how user-friendly participants found the Leadership Behaviours Profile and how much they got out it.

"Six months later the group were re-measured and showed significant improvement in their overall leadership, having successfully addressed the feedback they received. The profiles are a very worthwhile exercise which I shall be repeating with other comparable groups."

TLS's work with the Centre for Public Management has involved customising the Leadership Behaviours Profile to more closely reflect the requirements of the Australian public sector. Four instruments have been developed so far from this process - the Senior Leader Profile, the Executive Leadership Profile, the Team Leader Profile and the Strategic Intelligence Profile. These instruments are being used extensively in public sector internal management-training programs. These programs have been highly successful.
